After Tuesday's night creditable draw against league leaders Taunton, Paulton will take huge enouragement from that performance as they look to pick up all 3 points at home to Barnstaple.
Reflecting on the 2-2 draw in midweek, Rovers Manager John Rendell summed it up:
"The lads were really disappointed after the game and it felt a little like a loss, however on reflection I was extremely pleased with the way we went about our business and thought we looked strong and played well at times.
That 3 or 4 minute period at 75 minutes just killed us, to be fair they (Taunton) are extremely well drilled and have phenomenal momentum at the moment. They still haven’t lost away from home and I think they have gone 17/18 games unbeaten so taking that into account I was pleased overall.
Mike Meaker (Taunton's Assistant Manager) congratulated me after and complimented us as a team/ club saying it’s the strongest Rovers side he’s seen in recent years which was pleasing."
Team News:
After missing Tuesday's game with a calf strain, Dave Sims remains a doubt whilst Josh Cann looks set for a spell on the sidelines after a nasty blow on Tuesday may have done some bone damage to his metatarsal.
On a positive front, Joe Chandler returns to the squad after being unavailable through work commitments, and Liam Monelle gained some valuable minutes under his belt on Tuesday after almost a month out due to suspension and postponements.
The rest of the squad should all recover in good time.
Pre-Game Stats:
Barnstaple sit second bottom in the league on 18 points and have picked up one win in their last 6. Rovers will need to be on their guard as the Barum have picked up 12 of their 18 points on the road with 3 wins and 3 draws. Ironically their only home win this season came against Paulton back in September in a 4-0 victory!
Rovers will look to avenge that September defeat and are unbeaten at home in 2018 whilst also boasting the meanest defence in the bottom 7. Victory on Saturday could see them jump two places to 14th dependent on other results so looks like we are in for another tasty affair!
