Report by Jon Green
After what seems like a very long break, we get back to league action on Saturday when we travel to Barnstaple Town!
This will be yet another tough game. Our hosts currently sit in second place in the table and could go top should they win heir game in hand over league leaders, Brixham. Last time out, they defeated Bridgwater 4-2 with Tommy Rogers scoring a hattrick. Rogers isn't their top scorer though, that record goes to Joshua Parry on 14 league goals.
We should go into this game with some confidence though as our league form matches that of Barnstaple - four victories and a draw in the previous games. If you can cast your mind back (it seems so long ago!) we also won 4-2 in our previous game against St Austell with Kye Simpson also scoring a hattrick. The goals take him to 17 (league and cup) for the season so far.
In team news, we are sad to announce departure of Callum English-Brown as he has decided to relocate to Belfast. We'd like to thank Callum for his efforts in his brief spell with us, scoring some great goals in that time!
Manager, Ray Johnston, has moved quickly to replace Callum and we'd like you all to welcome back Wayne Nderemani to Paulton Rovers! Many will remember Wayne from his brief spell with us last year. Wayne put in some exciting performances before an injury cut his appearances short and then moved on to Yate.
Ray Johnston had this to say, "Delighted to sign Wayners! We were gutted to lose Callum obviously, but signing a player of Wayne’s talent and experience on a dual reg with Yate is a boost as we try and climb the table. Having previously worked with Wayne before at Mangotsfield, I know he is serious about his football and a really nice lad, always smiling! Buzzing to get him in!”
The manager has also added to his coaching staff with the addition of Clive Scott!
"Delighted to get Clive on board to assist myself and Gibbo! Clive has a wealth of Western League experience and still holds a huge passion for the game. Once I heard he was available I had no hesitation in inviting him on board as it’s a position we’ve looked at filling for some time. I’ve always enjoyed our interactions on the sidelines, and I’m cautious about the kind of personality I involve with the group, but Clive is a bubbly person and serious about his football and I think is a great fit"
There will be a coach to Barnstaple leaving the club at 10.15am. The fare will be £13 for adults, £12 for club members and under 18s £6. Please add your name to the list in the club if you'd like to travel. Spaces will be limited.
