Preview by Jon Green
On Saturday, we travel to Wimborne Town in Dorset for what will be one of the toughest tests of the season.
Wimborne currently sit in second place in the table, just behind Frome who lead the way. They do, however, have a game in hand which, if won, would take them back to the top of the pile. They have not dropped out of the top four all season and remain strong favourites for the automatic promotion spot. Their previous six results include five victories and one draw.
After three successive draws against top teams, the prospects had been looking better for ourselves. However, two defeats since then have seen us sink into further danger. Our narrow defeat to Cribbs saw us with plenty of possession but unable to break down a stubborn defence. Against, Yate on Easter Monday, we created a number of chances but didn't put them away. Without the two freak own goals and some decisions that should not have gone against us, the game may have been much closer though and looking back, maybe isn't such a bad result that the score-line suggests.
The boss told me: "Again on Saturday, we face another team in the top eight, currently 2nd and one of two favourites to win the league. I knew when I took this on we would be playing teams around the play-offs and so far in every game, bar Bashley, we have faced teams sat in top 8, so the fixtures haven’t been nice but the lads have been brilliant. Wimborne away is always tough but we can’t think like that as we have five cup finals to play.
The squad is short at the moment with David O’Hare and Sam Pashen out for the season. Jake Mawford and Rob Hobbs have signed as cover but are only available for certain games. Jesse Thompson, Dan Cottle and Aaron Parsons remain injured while Theo Mara and Josh Crispin are away.
We will have a game plan and will do our best."
We have previously played at Wimborne earlier in the season when we met in the FA Cup. On that occasion we came away with a scoreless draw but their keeper was voted man of the match. So then, the size of the task is huge but recent results have proved we have what it takes.
