We make a short trip to Yate on Easter Monday for a bank holiday derby!
Yate had a patchy opening to the season but after our Boxing Day victory over Monday's hosts their form turn and they made a remarkable ascent up the table and into the playoff positions. The last few weeks has seen them drop a little but with those chasing the playoff spots being so close together, one poor result can drop you several places. They are still well in the hunt for a spot! Their last game was on Friday (a 2-0 victory over Westbury) so they may also come into the game a little fresher. The previous five results to Tuesdays game include one victory, three defeats and a draw.
Our own form had been looking somewhat better until Saturday's defeat to Cribbs. Arguably there wasn't much to choose between the two teams despite the difference in league standings but with plenty of possession, especially in the second half, we were unable to fashion decent opportunities unlike the games against Bideford, Bemerton Heath and Evesham. There have been many changes to the team in the last few weeks and everyone who has come in has gelled well but obviously it takes time to really get to know each other.
The boss took time from his busy schedule to have a chat with me: "Yesterday was a disappointing result but good performance against a team 3rd in the division. It’s doesn’t get much easier visiting high flying Yate who more or less have conference south players in their team and then away to top of the league Wimborne on Saturday. We have some faces missing and a few with knocks but we will patch the boys up and go and give it our all, like we’ve done every game since I've been here."
We'd love to have your support for these final few games to help us push on to safety!
